For players wanting their first full size instrument, the "Primavera" models are a modest cost option. These are good value and well regarded by teachers.
Alternatively I always have a small selection of old violins carefully renovated by me to give good playing characteristics. The prices of these violins range typically £300-£500 and are excellent value. They are usually of sufficient playing/ sound quality to take the student to at least grade 8 and perhaps beyond.
The cello player is catered for similarly with both new outfits (Primavera) and selected used modern and old restored cellos.
